  • The Nokero N100 solar LED bulb can provide up to four hours of light on a single charge -- making it the world's first solar-powered light bulb.
The N100 is about the size of your average incandescent bulb, the green plastic housing holds four solar panels, five LEDs and a replaceable battery. Nokero, a Hong-Kong company, hopes this bulb will replace kerosene lanterns as a lighting source, which the company says are still used by billions of people worldwide. Not only is burning fossil fuels for lighting dangerous, but it's also costly. The N100 costs just $15 and should last 10 years. However, the duration of its burning time largely depends on weather conditions. Unless you're living on the equator, one day of charging will probably only get you about two hours of burn time that evening, making it a tough sell as a primary lighting source.
